Where the upside actually lives — for founders, small businesses, freelancers, and anyone who makes things.

The Changes in This Part

  1. 13

    Business

Small teams plus AI can now deliver what used to require departments. Redesign work around outcomes rather than job titles.

  2. 14

    Small Business

Automation lowers the cost of service, marketing and admin. Start with the boring task you repeat every single week.

  3. 15

    Money

AI reshapes how you earn, spend and get scored for credit. Keep records clean and never outsource financial judgement.

  4. 16

    Creativity

Generative tools multiply volume, not taste. Direction, curation and a distinctive point of view are the differentiators.

The Playbook

Where the upside actually lives

The biggest gains are not in replacing whole teams but in letting small teams deliver what used to need departments. Marketing, admin, support, research and first drafts that once required specialists can now be produced by one person with good tools and good judgement. The winners redesign work around outcomes — what needs to be true at the end — instead of around job titles.

Start with the boring task

Automation pays off fastest on the task you repeat every week and rarely enjoy: invoices, scheduling, follow-up emails, formatting, reporting. Write down the steps, automate the most mechanical part first, and keep a human check on anything that goes to a customer or touches money.

Taste is the multiplier

Generative tools multiply volume, not quality. When anyone can produce a hundred versions of a logo, a post or a proposal, direction, curation and a distinctive point of view become the scarce and valuable skills. Use AI to explore more options, then apply your own standards to decide what ships.

Ask Yourself Three Questions

From the author's note — run these after every chapter you read.

  1. 1 What might change in my life?
  2. 2 What do I need to learn or protect?
  3. 3 What is one action I can take this week?
